Wij gaan zorgvuldig om met jouw persoonsgegevens. Hieronder lees je wat we verzamelen, waarom en hoe lang.

We handle your personal data with care. Below you can read what we collect, why, and for how long.

1. Who we are

The Hurtados is a family travel blog operated by Rico & Dian Duran, based in Bali, Indonesia. We publish honest travel guides aimed primarily at Dutch and international families. Contact: sayhi@thehurtados.co

2. What data we collect

We collect personal data only when you actively provide it:

  • Newsletter subscription — your email address, to send you new guides and updates.
  • Comments — your name, email address and comment text. Your email is not published.
  • Contact form — your name, email address and message.
  • Analytics — anonymised usage data (pages visited, time on site, country) via Google Analytics 4 with IP anonymisation enabled. No personal identifiers are stored.
  • Cookies — we use essential cookies (language preference) and, if you consent, analytics cookies.

3. Legal basis (GDPR)

We process your data on the following legal grounds under the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679:

  • Consent — newsletter, analytics cookies and non-essential cookies.
  • Legitimate interest — comment moderation, spam prevention and improving the website.
  • Contract performance — if you contact us about a collaboration, we process your data to respond.

4. How long we keep your data

  • Newsletter — until you unsubscribe. Unsubscribe at any time via the link in each email.
  • Comments — as long as the relevant article is published.
  • Analytics data — 14 months (Google Analytics 4 default).
  • Contact enquiries — 12 months after last contact.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your data. We share data only where necessary to operate the website:

  • Hostinger — our web hosting provider (servers in the EU/EEA).
  • Google Analytics — anonymised analytics (data transferred to the US under Standard Contractual Clauses).
  • Newsletter provider (Brevo/MailerLite) — your email address for newsletter delivery.
  • Affiliate networks — Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Amazon Associates. Clicking affiliate links may set cookies on third-party sites. We have no control over those cookies.

6. Affiliate links

Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences our recommendations — we only recommend what we have genuinely tested and trusted.

7. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Request deletion ("right to be forgotten")
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Data portability
  • Withdraw consent at any time (this does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal)

To exercise any of these rights, email us at sayhi@thehurtados.co. We will respond within 30 days. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your national data protection authority.

8. Cookies

We use the following cookies:

  • trf_lang — stores your language preference (NL/EN). Expires after 1 year. Essential, no consent required.
  • _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies for anonymised traffic measurement. Only set after cookie consent.

You can delete or block cookies via your browser settings at any time.

9. Children's privacy

This website is written about family travel and includes content about our children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16. All data collection (newsletter, comments) requires an adult to provide consent.

10. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when our practices change. The date at the top of this page indicates when it was last updated. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

The Hurtados is een familie reisblog, beheerd door Rico & Dian Duran, gevestigd in Bali, Indonesië. Wij publiceren eerlijke reisgidsen voor Nederlandse en internationale gezinnen. Contact: sayhi@thehurtados.co

2. Welke gegevens we verzamelen

We verzamelen persoonsgegevens alleen wanneer jij ze actief aan ons verstrekt:

  • Nieuwsbrief — je e-mailadres, om nieuwe gidsen en updates te sturen.
  • Reacties — je naam, e-mailadres en de tekst van je reactie. Je e-mailadres wordt niet gepubliceerd.
  • Contactformulier — je naam, e-mailadres en bericht.
  • Analytics — geanonimiseerde gebruiksgegevens (bezochte pagina's, tijd op de site, land) via Google Analytics 4 met IP-anonimisering. Er worden geen persoonlijke identificatoren opgeslagen.
  • Cookies — we gebruiken essentiële cookies (taalvoorkeur) en, als je toestemming geeft, analytische cookies.

3. Wettelijke grondslag (AVG/GDPR)

Wij verwerken jouw gegevens op basis van de Algemene Verordening Gegevensbescherming (EU) 2016/679:

  • Toestemming — nieuwsbrief, analytische cookies en niet-essentiële cookies.
  • Gerechtvaardigd belang — moderatie van reacties, spampreventie en verbetering van de website.
  • Uitvoering van een overeenkomst — als je contact met ons opneemt over een samenwerking.

4. Bewaartermijnen

  • Nieuwsbrief — totdat je uitschrijft via de link in elk e-mailbericht.
  • Reacties — zolang het betreffende artikel gepubliceerd is.
  • Analytics-gegevens — 14 maanden (standaard Google Analytics 4).
  • Contactverzoeken — 12 maanden na het laatste contact.

5. Met wie we gegevens delen

Wij verkopen jouw gegevens niet. We delen gegevens alleen wanneer dit noodzakelijk is voor de werking van de website:

  • Hostinger — onze webhostingprovider (servers in de EU/EER).
  • Google Analytics — geanonimiseerde analytics (gegevens worden overgedragen naar de VS onder Standaard Contractuele Clausules).
  • Nieuwsbriefprovider (Brevo/MailerLite) — je e-mailadres voor nieuwsbriefbezorging.
  • Affiliate-netwerken — Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Amazon Associates. Klikken op affiliate-links kan cookies plaatsen op sites van derden. Wij hebben geen controle over die cookies.

6. Affiliate-links

Sommige links op deze site zijn affiliate-links. Als je klikt en een aankoop doet, ontvangen wij mogelijk een kleine commissie, zonder extra kosten voor jou. Dit heeft nooit invloed op onze aanbevelingen — wij bevelen alleen aan wat wij zelf echt hebben getest en vertrouwen.

7. Jouw rechten

Onder de AVG heb je het recht om:

  • Inzage te vragen in de persoonsgegevens die wij van je bewaren
  • Onjuiste gegevens te laten corrigeren
  • Verwijdering te verzoeken ("recht op vergetelheid")
  • Bezwaar te maken of verwerking te laten beperken
  • Gegevensoverdraagbaarheid
  • Toestemming te allen tijde in te trekken (dit laat de rechtmatigheid van de verwerking voor de intrekking onverlet)

8. Cookies

  • trf_lang — slaat je taalvoorkeur op (NL/EN). Vervalt na 1 jaar. Essentieel, geen toestemming vereist.
  • _ga, _ga_* — Google Analytics cookies voor geanonimiseerde verkeersanalyse. Worden alleen geplaatst na cookietoestemming.

Je kunt cookies verwijderen of blokkeren via je browserinstellingen.

9. Privacy van kinderen

Deze website schrijft over reizen met kinderen en bevat inhoud over onze kinderen. Wij verzamelen bewust geen persoonsgegevens van kinderen onder de 16 jaar. Alle gegevensverzameling (nieuwsbrief, reacties) vereist toestemming van een volwassene.

10. Wijzigingen

Wij kunnen dit beleid bijwerken wanneer onze werkwijze verandert. De datum bovenaan deze pagina geeft aan wanneer het voor het laatst is bijgewerkt.
