1. Who we are
The Hurtados is a family travel blog run by Rico & Dian Duran. We are based in the Netherlands, spend long stays in Bali and Indonesia, and write for Dutch and international families. We are responsible for the personal data described on this page. You can reach us at sayhi@thehurtados.co.
2. What we collect and why
- Newsletter. Your email address, so we can send you new guides. You confirm your signup through a link in a confirmation email (double opt-in). Basis: your consent.
- Collaboration form. Your name, email address, the kind of collaboration you have in mind and your message, so we can reply. Basis: steps you ask us to take before a possible agreement.
- Comments. Your name, email address, comment and, for spam checks, your IP address and browser details. Your email address is never published. Basis: our legitimate interest in running a comment section without spam.
- Statistics. Only if you allow it: which pages are visited, roughly from which country, on which device. We use Google Analytics 4 for this. GA4 does not store IP addresses. Basis: your consent.
- Affiliate tracking. Only if you allow it: the Travelpayouts script records that a booking came through one of our links, so we get the commission. Basis: your consent.
3. Cookies and similar storage
When you first visit, we ask what you allow. Nothing for statistics or affiliate tracking loads until you say yes. You can change your choice any time via Cookie settings, also linked at the bottom of every page.
- trf_lang (stored in your browser): your language, NL or EN. Functional, always on.
- trf_consent (stored in your browser): your cookie choice, so we don't ask again on every page. Functional, always on.
- pll_language (cookie, 1 year): your language for our multilingual setup. Functional, always on.
- comment_author_* (cookies, 1 year): only if you tick "save my details" when commenting. Functional.
- _ga, _ga_* (cookies, up to 2 years): Google Analytics. Only after you allow statistics.
- Travelpayouts: affiliate tracking from the script at emrldco.com. Only after you allow affiliate tracking.
If you withdraw your consent, we delete the Google Analytics cookies and reload the page so the scripts stop.
4. Content from other websites
Some pages show content that is loaded straight from another company. That company then sees your IP address and may set its own cookies, just as if you visited its site:
- YouTube videos (Google)
- Hotel maps and booking widgets from Stay22 (showing Booking.com and Tripadvisor)
- Activity widgets from GetYourGuide
- Photos from Unsplash
- Fonts from Google Fonts
When you click an affiliate link (for example to Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Klook, Amazon, SafetyWing or Wise), you go to that company's website, and its own privacy policy applies there.
5. Who processes data for us
We do not sell your data. These companies process data on our behalf or as part of the services above:
- Hostinger: hosts this website on servers in Frankfurt, Germany.
- Brevo (France): sends our newsletter.
- Google (Analytics, YouTube, Fonts).
- Travelpayouts, Stay22 and GetYourGuide: affiliate links and widgets.
Some of these companies are based outside the EU. Where data goes to the United States, it relies on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework or on the EU's standard contractual clauses.
6. How long we keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe, which you can do through the link in every email.
- Collaboration messages: up to 12 months after our last contact, unless we end up working together.
- Comments: as long as the article is online, or until you ask us to remove yours.
- Statistics: no longer than 14 months in Google Analytics.
7. Your rights
You can ask us to show, correct or delete the data we have about you, to limit or stop how we use it, or to send it to you in a usable format. You can withdraw consent at any time; that doesn't affect what happened before. Email sayhi@thehurtados.co and we'll answer within a month.
Not happy with how we handle it? You can complain to the data protection authority in your country. In the Netherlands that's the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
8. Children
We write about travelling with our kids, but this site is meant for parents. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us their details, let us know and we'll delete them.
9. Security
The site runs over HTTPS, is kept up to date, and is backed up regularly. Only we have access to the admin.
10. Changes
If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. For big changes we'll also mention it in the newsletter.

The Hurtados is een familiereisblog van Rico & Dian Duran. We zijn gevestigd in Nederland, verblijven lange periodes op Bali en in Indonesië, en schrijven voor Nederlandse en internationale gezinnen. Wij zijn verantwoordelijk voor de persoonsgegevens op deze pagina. Je bereikt ons via sayhi@thehurtados.co.
2. Wat we verzamelen en waarom
- Nieuwsbrief. Je e-mailadres, zodat we je nieuwe gidsen kunnen sturen. Je bevestigt je aanmelding via een link in een bevestigingsmail (dubbele opt-in). Grondslag: jouw toestemming.
- Samenwerkingsformulier. Je naam, e-mailadres, het soort samenwerking dat je zoekt en je bericht, zodat we kunnen reageren. Grondslag: stappen die jij vraagt voordat er misschien een overeenkomst komt.
- Reacties. Je naam, e-mailadres, reactie en, voor spamcontrole, je IP-adres en browsergegevens. Je e-mailadres wordt nooit gepubliceerd. Grondslag: ons gerechtvaardigd belang bij een reactiesectie zonder spam.
- Statistieken. Alleen als je dat toestaat: welke pagina's bezocht worden, ongeveer vanuit welk land, op welk apparaat. Hiervoor gebruiken we Google Analytics 4. GA4 slaat geen IP-adressen op. Grondslag: jouw toestemming.
- Affiliate-tracking. Alleen als je dat toestaat: het script van Travelpayouts registreert dat een boeking via een van onze links kwam, zodat wij de commissie krijgen. Grondslag: jouw toestemming.
3. Cookies en vergelijkbare opslag
Bij je eerste bezoek vragen we wat je toestaat. Niets voor statistieken of affiliate-tracking wordt geladen tot je ja zegt. Je kunt je keuze altijd wijzigen via Cookie-instellingen, ook te vinden onderaan elke pagina.
- trf_lang (opgeslagen in je browser): je taal, NL of EN. Functioneel, altijd aan.
- trf_consent (opgeslagen in je browser): je cookiekeuze, zodat we niet op elke pagina opnieuw vragen. Functioneel, altijd aan.
- pll_language (cookie, 1 jaar): je taal voor onze meertalige opzet. Functioneel, altijd aan.
- comment_author_* (cookies, 1 jaar): alleen als je bij een reactie "gegevens opslaan" aanvinkt. Functioneel.
- _ga, _ga_* (cookies, tot 2 jaar): Google Analytics. Pas nadat je statistieken toestaat.
- Travelpayouts: affiliate-tracking via het script van emrldco.com. Pas nadat je affiliate-tracking toestaat.
Trek je je toestemming in, dan verwijderen we de Google Analytics-cookies en laden we de pagina opnieuw, zodat de scripts stoppen.
4. Inhoud van andere websites
Op sommige pagina's staat inhoud die direct van een ander bedrijf wordt geladen. Dat bedrijf ziet dan je IP-adres en kan eigen cookies plaatsen, net alsof je zijn website bezoekt:
- YouTube-video's (Google)
- Hotelkaarten en boekingswidgets van Stay22 (met Booking.com en Tripadvisor)
- Activiteitenwidgets van GetYourGuide
- Foto's van Unsplash
- Lettertypen van Google Fonts
Klik je op een affiliate-link (bijvoorbeeld naar Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Klook, Amazon, SafetyWing of Wise), dan ga je naar de website van dat bedrijf en geldt daar zijn eigen privacybeleid.
5. Wie gegevens voor ons verwerkt
We verkopen je gegevens niet. Deze bedrijven verwerken gegevens namens ons of als onderdeel van de diensten hierboven:
- Hostinger: host deze website op servers in Frankfurt, Duitsland.
- Brevo (Frankrijk): verstuurt onze nieuwsbrief.
- Google (Analytics, YouTube, Fonts).
- Travelpayouts, Stay22 en GetYourGuide: affiliate-links en widgets.
Sommige van deze bedrijven zitten buiten de EU. Gaan gegevens naar de Verenigde Staten, dan gebeurt dat op basis van het EU-VS Data Privacy Framework of de standaardcontractbepalingen van de EU.
6. Hoe lang we het bewaren
- Nieuwsbrief: tot je je uitschrijft, via de link in elke e-mail.
- Samenwerkingsberichten: tot 12 maanden na ons laatste contact, tenzij we gaan samenwerken.
- Reacties: zolang het artikel online staat, of tot je vraagt de jouwe te verwijderen.
- Statistieken: maximaal 14 maanden in Google Analytics.
7. Jouw rechten
Je kunt ons vragen de gegevens die we van je hebben te laten zien, te verbeteren of te verwijderen, het gebruik te beperken of te stoppen, of ze in een bruikbaar formaat naar je te sturen. Je kunt je toestemming altijd intrekken; dat verandert niets aan wat daarvoor gebeurde. Mail sayhi@thehurtados.co en je krijgt binnen een maand antwoord.
Niet tevreden over hoe we ermee omgaan? Dan kun je een klacht indienen bij de Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
8. Kinderen
We schrijven over reizen met onze kinderen, maar deze site is bedoeld voor ouders. We verzamelen bewust geen gegevens van iemand jonger dan 16. Denk je dat een kind ons zijn gegevens heeft gestuurd? Laat het ons weten, dan verwijderen we ze.
9. Beveiliging
De site draait via HTTPS, wordt up-to-date gehouden en regelmatig geback-upt. Alleen wij hebben toegang tot de beheeromgeving.
10. Wijzigingen
Veranderen we iets aan hoe we met gegevens omgaan, dan passen we deze pagina en de datum bovenaan aan. Bij grote wijzigingen melden we het ook in de nieuwsbrief.
